Have you ever thought about the construction of eastern asian cuisines? They follow the rules of yin and yang. There is a balance of salty and sweet flavors, oil and vinegar, warm and cold temperatures, soft and crunchy textures, and a harmony of meat, carbohydrates, and vegetables. I apply these principles in my work as a cinematographer.
Collaboration energizes what's in the frame. All voices are equal because each of them produce components of what the camera sees. A syndication of direction and partnership allows the camera to see clearly. That is effective storytelling. As a Colorado native, I have learned to view voices equally through seeking a balance of nature, work, family, dance, friends, food, travel and meditation in my life.
